I feel like I wasn't productive today but I actually did get stuff done. I've been handling the kittens a fair bit, too, and it's going really well considering how freaked out they were yesterday. The two boys, Sonny and Quisha, are a lot less nervous and napping on the top of their cardboard hideout in the bathroom. The girl (officially Echo I think :) is more skittish but she's slowly coming around. She still cowers a little but she's been purring when we pet her (Quisha, too, he's so cute). And MeiMei's not hissing anymore, she likes to lick them and has even started playing with them, and I think that's really going to help them relax, too.

Gay extravaganza!
Part 2!

Careful! This post is going to contain spoilers for the one but last episode of Torchwood.

I can't remember precise instances, but I remember some of my straight friends complaining gayness was showing up everywhere. And that everybody always got so excited about it. The realm of LJ and fandom in general takes that and blows it out of proportion - slash pairings seem to beat other pairings in the interest they raise by miles, and I mean by miles. But most of the fans getting intense about these gay couples potrayed (or not) on TV aren't gay themselves. So this isn't some big surge of love for TV finally potraying "our" relationships on screen (I'm not denying a lot of straight people permanently have two thumbs up for gay couples and it's very couple, I'm just saying it's not blind "they're like us so they're cool" love).

So the question is, ( is it really cooler to be a same-sex couple on TV? )

Up next, and probably tomorrow (since it's two in the morning)...
Gender roles and (male) gay couples : is it really easier to be reduced to doing the dishes because you live with another man?

Oh, Jon Stewart, I love you.

This is Jon's reaction to Barack Obama announcing he was forming a exploratory committee (first step towards running for President). ...Jon also attempts to eat that pancake-sausage thing.

...and why am I going to be on the right side of the Atlantic for the Primaries instead of the actual Presidential race again?

To finish with Stewart, I highly recommend going on the Daily Show website, too, and watching the video entitled Taser War. It's so ridiculous the length to which people will go just so they appear as good journalists.

Unrelated, and not AT ALL in the same vein,

moimoietmoi posted an entry with Torchwood fic recs - I've just gotten through all of them and each one of the fic she recommended is absolutely worth reading. So if you haven't already read all the fics mentioned there, go do so. I love the way good Torchwood fics leave me feeling. There's a quietness, a dull angst to them I find truly beautiful.

Back with the gayness soon, but I'm trying to be serious and actually read Pamela which unfortunately delays all other activities.

Oh, god, I love random cable channels. Georgia TV has Friends on right now. The best part is that they don't dub, they lower the English and say the Georgian translation on top. Oooh, cheapness. *G* God TV's probably still the best one, though.

More seriously (it's all relative), I'm desperately looking for a good Torchwood icon. Specifically Jack, possibly Jack/Ianto, but I'm thinking Jack for now. Can't decide if I want a happy one - gotta love John Barrowman's smile - or a angsty one - I love that aspect of Jack. So if you have any good ones, can you throw them at me? I've been looking at

torchwoodicons and

torch_wood and it's helped some but I haven't found the right icon yet, so I'm hoping you guys can help. Well, the three of you who watch Torchwood anyway. *g*

On that note... off to make cookies or watch Doctor Who!
