I'm officially leaving for Vancouver on Thursday, August 23. And it takes 15 hours to travel all the way there. Phew.

Now here is to hoping :
- that there won't be any problems for the visa (otherwise, er...mayday?)
- that I can find an apartment in a week in Vancouver since International Orientation starts Aug. 30

You know, this whole thing is rather completely terrifying.

How come I don't have a "travel" icon?

Jess left for Brazil a couple of weeks ago, and with Macha (the girl she went with), they're keeping a LJ about the trip, [livejournal.com profile] no_brasil. I love it, it's an awesome way to keep in touch with them, and the way Jess tells stories (I suspect it's always Jess who writes) also makes it very fun - the latest entry, about how there's noise 24/7 in Carius, is hilarious.

Also, rec'd by [livejournal.com profile] queenspanky unless I'm mistaken, this British political blog is excellent, and a great way to keep in touch with debates happening on the other side of the Channel (or the Atlantic, I guess, depending where you're looking from). It's informative and snarky, sometimes more snarky than anything else. Love it.

Speaking of politics and snark, I'm off to watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Who are so much funnier than our Guignols these days.

Last day in Germany, which means cleaning up, making sure we're not leaving anything behind and buying the last couple of things we need (which, for me, includes Trio cereal boxes and Philadelphia cream cheese).

Yesterday was ecclectic at its best : we went back to the boheme neighborhood for brunch (all-you-can-eat buffet for 9 euros in a lovely restaurant, perfect way to start the day), then did the touristic thing by going to the museum of Musical Instruments, then went to a beer festival (complete with drunk super-heroes and dancing on tables) and finally headed to the Opera for a night of classical music.

Tomorrow we're leaving around 5 am and not only are we gonna be driving all day, but we have the issue of the leak to take care of when we get home. Wheee! Except, y'know, not.

So clearly I couldn't escape the issue of homophobia even if I remotely tried to. *g* We took the metro the other day and suddenly a poster caught Fan''s eyes : boy kissing (obviously)! On a poster! In the U-bahn (metro)! Of course I had to take a picture and report.

It's a poster edited by Maneo which apparently is Berlin's gay emergency hotline. And I really like it. Love the picture, the guys look so cute and happy. Heeee!

Finally, I'd like to make a public announcement : George Clooney does, actually, star in The Red Thin Line. Contrarily to what it looks like when you watch the first two hours and forty minutes of the movie, the DVD jacket is NOT lying about him being in the movie. However, the word "overstatement" perfectly fits to qualify the fact George's mentioned FIRST on the DVD as a "contributing his talent to this epic".

So yes, we spent the whole movie (since George wouldn't show up till the end) expecting him to appear, and after the first hour had come and gone, we were also almost expecting him to arrive with his trademark "what else?". Certainly made for a few good laughs, which made up for the lack of George's presence.

One of the best moment of the movie was towards the end, when we were getting a bit tired of the emo voice-overs that were slowly taking over all the characters, and Fan' sighed, "The island made them emo..." At which point Peewai rolled his eyes and corrected, "It's not. The war made them emo."

Heee. Have I mentioned spending vacation with Peewai and Fan' is quite a riot at times? You should hear Peewai tell the story of Book's life and the undying love he has for Mal, the woman of his life who turned out to be a male rebel for whom he changed his ways.

Obviously you can't go to Berlin and not do anything related to the wall. There's still a whole portion standing near where we went to have brunch on Sunday, so we walked along. Except this is not the Berlin Wall, not really - it's a memorial to this wall, to all the walls that we put up. It's been transformed into a space for expression for artists and everyday people, when it was intended to enclose and limit. There's something beautiful in that - how we can turn things around, change the meaning of things. At the same time, the very presence of that wall is a reminder of everything it stood for, everything humanity is capable of doing. The Soviet Union cannot be summed up by the Wall, or any one sentence, and ultimately, the wall goes beyond who put it up, because it could have been anyone. Because Israel is doing it, because the US is doing it, because we all do it, put up walls, thinking it will help.

We forget, by obsessing about our security, by worrying about invasions of all sorts, that this is not what matters.

The world is too small for walls.

I've been having fun with the camera, trying to figure out all the settings and everything, so I thought I'd use that to tell the story of a regular day in Berlin.

In TechniCOLOR! )

Everything else is fine except I've LOST my watch and I hate myself. I'm such a fucking klutz and I need my watch. And I really could have used not spending 40 euros on a watch right now. *grumbles*

Also, Gaelic Storm has a new CD out that I can't find anywhere! It's called "Bring yer wellies", which I think is the best title ever. Eeee!

So, er - we keep going to swimming pools. Sweet. Especially since here, most of the time they're heated. Ooooh nice. The best one was this small really warm one in the middle of fields, at the bottom of mountains. Beautiful location, and we were on our own in the pool most of the time. Loved it.

Apart from that, not much. We're off for two days, to walk around and all. Oh, we saw a geyser yesterday, and wonderful falls (the day before that, we saw the highest fall in Iceland - hard to find, but simply beautiful). Will think of putting pictures online at some point.

On that note, I am off. Hopefully there will be Once More With Feelings singing in the car today or tomorrow!! (Right now, there'll be sleeping. Me need sleep. Badly.)

Life still good. We've apparently experienced Iceland's hottest day in its whole history two days ago. Yesterday was anniversary goodness, went a nice and good Italian restaurant (and got some wine, even though I apparently wasn't supposed to drink at all, since the drinking age seems to be 20 here). Then we tried to go to Café Cosy, but it was full, so we checked out the other bar we'd spotted, and that one was open and still had room, so we ordered a drink and settled down there. Kisses, disturbing conversations, cuddles and teasing, me & [livejournal.com profile] fan_elune at our best. Then they started a karaoke, so much fun!! I wish we could have stayed longer. Me very happy with the night.

The day was great too, we went horseback-riding. I got a horse called Najjur (pronounce Nakkur, apparently), and we tölted (I guess it was tölt?) almost all the way. Tölt really is overrated as a comfortable gait, but it was a lot of fun to try it! I need to send a postcard to my club back in France. Anyway, am being yelled at to get into the shower, and so I shall.
Oh, big downpoint is, I don't know where Frederic's necklace is and I hate it. Will find it. Have to.

Off to a port up north for a couple of days.

Quick quick update :
We've reached Iceland, all is good. Weather was excellent today, we went into Reykjavik and Fan' bought a couple of things (including a very hot and tight black t-shirt with two female signs on it - leftovers from the city's Gay Pride of Aug. 7 - we missed it by so little!) and I bought a couple of postcards. I fought and frollicked with my brother in a small park. We also found the gay bar we want to go to (the Café Cosy) and an Italian restaurant we'll be going to tomorrow for our anniversary.
Yesterday, we met up with Gunnar (Gun - nar (roll the r)), the family's son, who showed us the way to the house. He was such a pretty guy, and was very nice, too. Just seemed a little shy and didn't talk loud enough. We ended up in his room with Fan', and Peewai's in the room next to us. The house is very clean and Ikea-esque, so great. We have a TV and an awesome stereo in our room, completed with a DVD player. And, as you can see, DSL connection for two computers. Not much to complain about (except bugs, a little, would say Fan', but then I get to kill them and be like the hero or something).

Tomorrow, horseback-riding with Icelandic horse (yay tölt I hope), restaurant and maybe hot swimming pool? We'll see. We're off to watch Master & Commander.

To start, a few memes gawked from ... er, various people. Sorry for lack of credit.

Ooooh my tastes and life are very interesting )

So, yes, we're just back from Erquy and all. It was lovely. We went swimming every day, and even though it was really cold one day, it was just great. I hadn't been in the sea for far too long. Plus, we got to play an RPG with Dadou, a friend of [livejournal.com profile] fan_elune's, and it was fun. I was Brün (it's pronounced Broun, and don't you start on it!!), a great strong barbarian that DID NOT hurt one of our allies with an arrow of his.

Also, we watched A Knight's Tale. And again. And again. And then some. But it's a nice movie. It's a lot of fun, especially Wat, Roland, Kate and Chaucer. Not a big fan of Jocelyne at all, but oh well. Heath Ledger was fine in it, though his character annoyed me with being too childish sometimes. Anyhoot, good movie, and sparkled some really nice fic in Fan''s mind, so all for the goodie goodie.

And thank Joss, the stars and beyond, things worked out for the passeport. Monday Fan' got a call saying it'd be ready for Friday, and Wednesday we learnt it was ready to be picked up. Administration never was so fast. I'm impressed. Anyway, it should get to Rennes tomorrow and be all good. *relieved, happy sigh*

We walked around, Erquy's your usual Briton resort, but it'd been a while since I'd enjoyed one. I studied, too. Yesterday night, we went to a really delicious restaurant. I was so afraid I wouldn't enjoy the food all that much and all, and look stupid and all, but it was just amazing. Wheee! I even got my sweat-shirt stained by one of the waitress, which got us free alcohol. Good times. Finally, really nice moments with Fan'. That did include trying to drink water from bottles like you'd drink champagne at New Year, kisses in the sea, and long laughs and incomprehensible conversations that remind me how much I love her. *silly grin*

Now, the weekend of the love is about to be launched. Well, the birthday weekend, really. People starting to arrive from 12:46 tomorrow, we're gonna keep going back and forth between home and the station, but oh well. Can't wait to see everybody. In the meanwhile, we must figure out how to go buy food and watch Fucking Amal. Oooh, need to call cousin, too. Off to do that.

Lots of love everybody, and I will see some of you very very very very soon. *happy, excited grin*
