Not a cat person either but she's gotten to me pretty bad. :)
There isn't much we can do, really. We have a harness and we can try helping her like this but it's not very effective. She's learning to compensate on her own, really, the best thing we can do I think is provide her with a bed that's easy to get into (check), fun toys (check) and humans to carry her to the litter box until she can get into one herself (check). She's unlucky because our floor is fairly slippery and that doesn't help. Which is partly why I take her outside where she can run and not hurt herself as much. :)
