Less shallow, more info!
L'abolition de la peine de mort bientôt inscrite dans la Constitution.
I couldn't find any article in English about this (probably because it won't actually happen for another couple of weeks), but France will soon to write into its constitution that no one can be condemned to the death penalty.
The death penalty was declared forbidden by French President François Mitterand in 1981 (and it wasn't exactly a popular decision at the time), but it was basically an executive order and writing it into the constitution gives it a lot more strength (it couldn't be as easily voted back if anyone ever wanted to do that).
So, yeah, for once, I'm a little proud of my country. And of my president, as he instigated that decision.
