Penises

You know a country/culture has serious denial issues when you post the picture of Collin Farrell's penis and most of the responses are along the lines of "ewwwww". I mean, I'm a gay lady and I'm not digusted by it. I'm just like, ok, penis. Now, maybe I'm a European gay lady and that helps. But seriously. I find it worrying that people would be disgusted by a penis. Not that you have to wear little hats and worship penises and the god of hard-ons, thank you very much I'll stick to my worshipping Joss Whedon. But - it's no big deal, guys. It's a penis. It's part of the human body, and okay it's not something you're used to seeing but - get over it.

I think I'm scared that some of the "ewww" people are underage kids who've had "ABSTINENCE IS THE ONLY WAY" as their only sex education. That would be sad, really, cuz I do think when you've reached 16 you should be a little more familiar with penises (not AT ALL in a sexual way - just look at who's talking - but as a concept and as a picture, yes). I mean, genitals are far from being something I find overly attractive (I like a person's general figure and curves much better, to be honest), and I don't especially like when images of them are thrown to my face during, say, porn-like movies I find myself accidentally watching amongst other short movies, but they don't digust me. It just seems extremely strange that young women (straight or gay...) would go "ewwww" in front of a penis, it screams prude to me and I'm not liking it at all. It frightens me into thinking about teen pregnancy and young women having sex and not liking it / finding it disgusting. So not the way to go.

Point is, I don't really get it.

*is puzzled*

Any US person here who can explain this to me?

EDITED TO ADD : On well, while we're on sex-related stuff, here is a new quizz I just did :

First of all, I really love AfterEllen.com. Some writers there are really great, and for me it's a really nice nice to keep up to date with gay stuff happening overseas.

Best quote from this week's Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. by Sarah Warn, about One Tree Hill maybe preparing for one of its female characters to come out :
"That would bring the count of lesbian characters on network TV this season up to 3, which might not seem like a lot compared to the 10,027.05 heterosexual characters on network TV this season, but...yeah, okay, it doesn't even make a dent." *g*

Was also reading an article about Here!TV, basically the US equivalent of PinkTV, aka it's a gay channel. Except it should ROCK, and has much more potential than PinkTV for a bunch of reasons : 1) no commericals, 2) not part of TF1, 3) NEW CREATIONS!!!
In short, it wants to be the gay HBO, and if they're a third as good as HBO is, man this is going to be ground-breaking. I'm already craving to see Too cool for Christmas and Here!Family, which is basically a mini-series about gay parents (I think).

This remind me that I *so* need to find and rent Go Fish (because it's Rose Troche and Guinevere Turner and the whole lesbian community knows that movie) and Fire. I'm extremely curious about Fire. So yes. I'll need to think about that when my break is ACTUALLY there, not when I'm supposed to work for exams.
