Court decisions
Feb. 22nd, 2006 04:43 pmIt's a bit pathetic that I actually enjoy reading some court decisions. We mentioned Plessy v. Ferguson in Civilisation today and we had a look at it, and then I realized our class booklet also had a copy of the opinion from dissenting Justice Harlan, and it was really interesting to read all his arguments against the decision. Made me want to re-read the Goodridge v. Departement of Public Health, and get my hands on Brown v. Board of Education.
To be honest, I sorta want to buy the books where the decision's excerpts are from. Tsk.
Totally different topic : Harken. I haven't talked about my boy for a while, and this weekend was very busy. You might remember he'd stopped doing the blue screen thing after Emilie and I had reinstalled all the drivers (except on very rare occasions for reasons I obviously can't fanthom). Well yesterday after my brother had installed the same firewall he runs on his computer, namely ZoneAlarm, Harken started doing the blue screen again. A lot. I've just restaured the system to before we installed the firewall and computer seems to be doing fine... for now.
Also, he had his very first serious virus infection on Monday! How adorable. (Thank Joss, it was no big deal to remove the virus.)
And also, the computer still won't download correctly most .exe files, for, again, no reason I can fanthom (read : I download the .exe and try to run it, when Harken assures me the file is corrupted, but if I go download it on Simon, the file's just fine...)
So anyway... tomorrow Emilie's coming and we're going to try to run her hard drive on the computer, see if the problem's still there, and if it's not, try to run the two hard drives at once (with Harken's HD as the "slave" HD). She was also talking of reformatting the whole HD, not just the partition with Windows on it.
So yeah, not getting anywhere, but hey, I haven't lost complete hope just yet. Clearly I have very strong faith.
And also I hope if we still can't figure it, Frédéric can have an in-depth look when he comes back and maybe find out what's wrong.
EDIT : I've put my tags in order, whee! Now I just need to tag all my old entries...
